THE EQUINE ART WALL EXHIBIT

Wild horses, working horses, circus horses, women with horses….During the month of May, St. Louis artist Leslie Faust will have a Wall of Equine Art on display in the lobby of the Metropolitan Square Builing, 211 No. Broadway, downtown St. Louis. GRAPES AND THE GARDEN

Join friends for a special springtime afternoon tasting fine wines and gourmet foods at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Grapes and the Garden on Saturday, May 5 from 3 to 7 p.m. features over 100 wines from the world’s great wine growing regions. Dinner and Bikes is vegan chef Joshua Ploeg, publisher and movie maker Joe Biel, and writer/blogger Elly Blue’s spring tour of the southeastern U.S. (and St. Louis). Their goal is to bring people together to eat delicious food and get inspired about bicycle transportation.William A. STLCC TO HOST COMMUNITY FORUM

The St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees will host “Coffee, Community and Conversation: A Community Forum” Tuesday, May 8, at the William J. Harrison Education Center, 3140 Cass Ave. This will be the second in a series of information sessions that are open to the public. Center tours will begin at 5:30 p.m. The forum is slated to begin at 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room.Trustees and college administrators will be on hand to discuss student success initiatives, including participation in Achieving the Dream, and will be seeking input from community representatives regarding the challenges STLCC faces in developing strategies to improve student retention and college completion. MEET OUR ONE DIME AT A TIME RECIPIENT: TENTH LIFE CAT RESCUE
AT WHOLE FOODS MARKET

This program reduces our impact on the environment and now supports local nonprofit groups. Throughout April, May and June, customers will have the choice to accept their cash refund or donate the cash back to our store’s chosen nonprofit organization, Tenth Life Cat Rescue. Tenth Life Cat Rescue saves stray cats and kittens from the streets of St. Louis, MO, with particular attention to those with special needs, injuries, or medical conditions that make it difficult for other organizations to afford their care. SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL ST. LOUIS’ PRODUCTION OF “OTHELLO”

will run from May 25-June 17 (excluding Tuesdays) at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park on Fine Arts Drive. Preview performances are scheduled May 23-24. This is the festival’s 12th season of producing free performances of Shakespeare’s work in an outdoor setting. Believed to be written in approximately 1603, Othello is a play about an outsider who misplaces his trust with cataclysmic results. Its themes of racism, love, jealousy and betrayal have made it one of the most popular plays in the world. As in previous years, the Pre-Show Festival activities will include a nightly Green Show at 6:30 p.m. The Pre-Show will include: a 20-minute adaptation of “Othello” which will introduce the characters and plot to children of all ages; musicians, dancers, singers, jugglers; a craft table for kids; conversations on the lawn by local scholars, as well as new activities. The popularity of last year’s inaugural backstage tours before each performance and 20-minute post-show talkbacks will continue this season.Seating for “Othello” is available on the open lawn. Elaborate, illuminated works of art from China will take center stage this summer at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis. “Lantern Festival: Art by Day, Magic by Night” showcases Chinese culture, traditions and symbolism through larger-than-life, detailed scenes crafted from colorful silks and molded steel. The striking sets, ranging in size up to three stories tall, will be lit for special evening viewing, giving visitors the opportunity to experience a cultural event that is rarely staged outside of Asia. “Lantern Festival: Art by Day, Magic by Night” runs for a limited 12-week engagement, May 26 through August 19, 2012, and is presented by Emerson.
