Great Rivers Greenway is excited to announce a $2 million gift from Nestlé Purina PetCare Company towards the development of the Brickline Greenway. Purina’s investment aims to enhance the accessibility and enjoyment of Downtown St. Louis and the region for dog owners and their furry companions.
Headquartered in Downtown St. Louis for over 130 years, Purina has a long history of promoting regional development and supporting nonprofits across the area. As part of this contribution, Purina will work with Great Rivers Greenway to install pet water and waste stations along the Brickline Greenway. These additions will ensure that dog owners have the necessary amenities to enjoy the greenway while promoting responsible pet ownership.
“Great Rivers Greenway is thrilled to partner with Purina on this initiative,” said Susan Trautman, retiring Chief Executive Officer at Great Rivers Greenway. “This commitment will help us bring Brickline Greenway to life as a welcoming place for all residents and visitors, ensuring that our greenways are enjoyable for everyone, including our four-legged friends.”
The Brickline Greenway is a transformative project aimed at connecting 14 north, south and west St. Louis neighborhoods into Downtown, and creating a vibrant corridor for walking, biking, and outdoor recreation. As a priority project in the STL 2030 Jobs Plan, the Brickline Greenway is estimated to provide a 2:1 return on investment, contribute to the revitalization of Downtown St. Louis, and connect people across neighborhoods to jobs and opportunity.
“Purina is dedicated to supporting the communities where we live and work, and we’re passionate about creating safe spaces for pets and people to enjoy together,” said Nina Leigh Krueger, CEO and President at Nestlé Purina PetCare Company. “We’re proud to support the development of the Brickline Greenway. We’re confident this project will not only connect more residents and visitors to Downtown, but also bring new energy and opportunity to our region while encouraging a healthy lifestyle for pets and their families.”
The installation of the new pet water and waste stations is set to begin along Market Street this Fall. This commitment aligns with Purina’s goal to create richer lives for pets and the people who love them, as highlighted by the recent announcement citing the company’s total donations exceeded $37 million in 2024, including $22.9 million in monetary grants and $14.2 million in in-kind contributions of Purina pet food and Tidy Cats litter.

About Brickline Greenway/Great Rivers Greenway
Brickline Greenway is a bold vision to connect people and our city’s most treasured places, creating inspiring experiences and equitable opportunities for growth. This will be a network of 10 miles of greenways, linking up to 14 neighborhoods in the City of St. Louis, connecting Forest Park to the Gateway Arch National Park, Fairground Park to Tower Grove Park and hundreds of destinations in between. Progress includes two segments built, two more in construction, four more in design and is now 62% funded through local tax dollars, State of Missouri funds, several federal grants and private philanthropy. www.BricklineGreenway.org
Great Rivers Greenway is a public agency, created by a vote of the people in St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County in the year 2000 to create a sales tax dedicated to connecting the region with greenways. The mission is to make the St. Louis region a more vibrant place to live, work and play by developing a network of greenways with partners and communities, enhancing healthy habitats and watersheds along the way. Whether you walk, run, ride a bike, roll a wheelchair or push a stroller, there are 135 miles of greenways and counting for you to explore and enjoy!
