2025: Reflections on a Year Full of Gratitude

By Susan Hunt-Bradford

Every New Year’s Eve, before the clock strikes midnight, I take a little time to look back on the year that’s just passed. This one has been interesting, to say the least. I’ve learned a lot—about myself, about others, and about what really matters. From people I work and spend time with, to folks I only know through social media, I’ve noticed that everyone’s walking their own path filled with joys and struggles.

I’ve seen how hard life can be for those trying to pay bills or feed their families with little resources. Watching how people handle life’s ups and downs has taught me not to judge. We never really know what someone else is going through. I’ve realized that one of the best things I can do is live with gratitude and try to be as authentic as possible.

I often think about that quote: “When they go low, we go high.” It’s simple but powerful—and such a good reminder in so many situations.

Of course, I have sad moments too. My heart breaks when I hear about a child or animal being hurt, or a family who doesn’t have enough to get by. I say quiet prayers for people who are lonely, struggling, or living on the streets. It’s easy to get pulled into the sadness of it all, but gratitude helps me refocus and find some peace.

As I look back on 2025, I recognize my own challenges but feel deeply thankful for the good in my life. People can be messy and complicated, but they can also be wonderfully kind and resilient. I’ve learned that focusing on what I do have, instead of what I don’t, makes each day brighter. Joy really does live in the little things.

As we move into the holiday season, I hope you find time to celebrate however you want—whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day (a little shout-out to my Canadian relatives), or something entirely your own.

And for anyone who feels there’s not much to celebrate right now, please know you’re not alone. We’re all navigating life the best we can, and there are so many good people around you. If you need support, reach out—someone will be there. There are people who care about you, who are rooting for you, and who want good things for your life.

May the beauty of the season fill your heart with warmth, peace, and gratitude.
