Today I am talking about how we often carry fear and change in our body. Change is hard for everybody and especially after or concurrent with major changes in our lives like a new job, moving homes and offices, marriage, divorce, a new baby or a child leaving the home and a death in the family. At times like those we move into a territory called the unknown. The unknown is scary for most of us. Our bodies and our minds are indelibly connected, and I find this personally as well as professionally. So, entering this unknown and scary place, our bodies respond and react to our fears. Do you notice that suddenly you might get a cold just as you are about to start a new job? Or, you suddenly have knee pain or hip pain, or inflammation flares in your stomach/gut?
Frequently I have patients come to see me with sciatica pain after the death of a spouse, for instance. Another frequent thing I see are accidents like a fall or an ankle sprain just before a move or when they are experiencing confusion or conflicting emotions. I also see autoimmune flare ups like chronic fatigue, or arthritis issues and even gut issues with bloating and gas when we are afraid. In these cases, our bodies are trying to befriend us, be our ally, by slowing us down or by carrying some of the emotional load so that we aren’t so overwhelmed with our fear or confusion.
At those times it is important to slow down enough to listen to our bodies. To ask our bodies what they are feeling. Sometimes, we just need to hear ourselves and our fears instead of continuing to push ourselves along. We invite our bodies to join with our feelings and work together. Try it and see if this helps you.
And, if you would like some guidance or assistance with this process, contact me at: gail@bodypresencing.com., 314-995-9755 and let’s set up a time to work together.
I enjoy being a guide to you being your own agent of health.
