Lessening Inflammation

Dr Gail Cloud

By Dr. Gail Cloud

Our world here, especially in the West, is riddled with inflammation. Most of us carry lots of inflammation in our bodies and have symptoms of metabolic issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver, joint pain, stomach aches, constipation or its opposite, etc.

One of the causes is the amount of processed foods we consume, and the amount of seed oils we use and eat daily. What many of us don’t know much about is how to help ourselves through our diet.

Now, lifestyle changes like diet are extremely hard to change and moderate. Sometimes we have to make the changes slowly. Others of us have to make the change right away. The advantage to that is that when we modify our diet to eliminate many of the foods which cause inflammatory responses in our bodies, we are able to see the results more quickly…..feeling better!

Very simply, and this is for most people and not all, eliminating certain foods from our diets is crucial. I tell my patients to do this for 10 days…we can do things for 10 days, and see what differences we notice.

Eliminate for 10 days: all dairy, red meat, all sugar, white potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and wheat and wheat products. Some people say to me, so what can I eat?

Fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, beans, grains such as rice, millet, quinoa, buckwheat, milk alternatives like soy milk or almond milk, noodles without wheat and gluten, organic chicken, turkey, salmon, and fish with low mercury, lentils.

So, for 10 days eliminate those foods and see how you feel. Then you can do the 80/20 rule where you eat clean 80 percent of the time, unless of course, you have a chronic disease which makes you monitor certain foods all the time, like celiac disease.

You will decrease the amount of inflammation in your body.
