A Cool Treat For Your Hot Pups

Dog Treat

My dogs stay indoors most of the summer, neither of them, Jazzy or Kiba like to be outdoors for long. I take them out more in the summer since they drink more water but they don’t stay out long when they do go out. My big boy, Kiba, 86 lbs. was adopted from Los Angeles when he was 6 years old so I think the St. Louis humidity can really get to him even indoors.

This frozen treat has only 3 ingredients that my both dogs like separately and combined even more so. But double check that your dogs aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cup plain 0% Fat Free Greek Yogurt
  • ¾ cup natural peanut butter (unsalted)
  • 1 ripe banana

MAKE SURE THE YOGURT AND PEANUT BUTTER DO NOT HAVE ANY ADDITIVES OR SWEETENERS. SOME COMMON INGREDIENTS SUCH AS XYLITOL ARE VERY DANGEROUS TO DOGS.

  • Mix all the ingredients by hand mixer or food processor and blend until smooth. Drop by even spoonfuls onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Makes 14 treats.
  • Put in freezer for two hours.
  • If freezing more than 2 hours, they became very hard, so let them thaw 20 minutes before giving to your dog.
  • Always supervise when your dog has treats.
  • You can keep in freezer in a food storage container for up to 3 months.
  • Each one is around 100 calories so I limit to one per occasion.
