Strategies to Enhance Your Immune System!

Natural immunity to COVID-19 is not lasting. People who have had documented cases of COVID-19 when I tested months later no longer are positive for antibodies. What that means is that 8-12 months after the initial infection, protection has diminished to the point that original antibody tests are negative and new infection with exposure to COVID is likely. Those that are operating under the incorrect assumption that having had COVID gives lifelong immunity are not only wrong but are at risk for repeat significant infections. I wish that were not the case but unfortunately it is. Hospitals are currently full of unvaccinated individuals with severe COVID infections.

Antibody protection also wanes for those that have had COVID vaccinations. Thus boosters are essential to maintain antibody levels and protection against COVID. Vaccinated persons can still contract the virus but are much less likely to have severe infections or require hospitalization. They can spread the virus, so precautions are still needed with social distancing and masks to protect the unvaccinated and immune compromised populations.

Today it is more important than ever to have a healthy immune system.

The good news is that there are effective natural options to enhance your immune system and to naturally treat infections.

What can you do?

  • Get plenty of Sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for a healthy immune system.
  • Reduce Stress: High stress levels negatively impact the immune system.  Find time to breath, stretch, meditate and laugh! A balanced life is essential to optimal health.
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables which are rich in vitamins, phytonutrients and fiber that support the immune system. Consider green smoothies or juicing.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Take steps to reduce your exposure to infectious agents. Wash your hands frequently and keep your hands away from your face. Wear a mask when public places inside.
  • Take Probiotics to support the intestinal microbiome. A healthy immune system begins with a healthy gut.
  • Take Digestive enzymes which help to make nutrients easier to absorb.
  • Herbs like olive leaf, garlic, oregano oil, pau d arco and ginseng provide anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal benefits.
  • Vitamins and minerals including Vitamins C, D, B6, folic acid and Zinc are essential for healthy immune function.
  • Phytonutrients and antioxidants boost the immune system and can be taken as supplements or consumed in a healthy diet.
  • Medicinal mushrooms like shiitake and reishi varieties have immune enhancing properties.
