Irresistible Community Builders Presents: JOIN THE 10:10 GLOBAL WORK DAY TO GET BACK TO A STABLE 350 PPM

By Tom & Carol Braford

This year is the sprint year when we will set the pace in a decade long race to get back to 350 ppm before global warming spins completely out of control.  We will do this primarily by cutting CO2 emissions by 80% by 2020 through the establishment of sustainable lifestyles and economies in greater St. Louis and beyond.  This decade will set the pace for a century long marathon as we begin to restore the earth and issue in a millennium of climate prosperity.

To accomplish this, the St. Louis 350 Collaboration and the St. Louis 2020 Climate Leadership Campaign invite you to join the international campaigns to have 2010 be the year that we get to work in our region.

The international campaigns, working with the 10:10 movement out of England whose goal is to reduce carbon emissions by 10% a year, are focused on four major activities in 2010 (see www.stl350.com). The first is a Global Work Day on 10/10/10 when we will make a major push to insulate buildings, install solar collectors, windmills, geothermal systems and methane digesters, plant trees, establish community gardens, etc. leading up to and on October 10, 2010, which will jumpstart the move to a sustainable culture and planet.

At Culver Way Ecovillage the Green Beings Urban Farm will conduct a10:10 Work Day on April 10th.  Volunteers will be preparing and planting ten growing beds and may be putting up a Hoop Greenhouse if it arrives in time.  Metro Cohousing will hold a work day to continue work on the first ten homes that we plan to finish during the Global Work Day on 10/10/10.

If you are interested in what you can do personally to address the climate issue, go to www.empowermentinstitute.net, download or purchase Low Carbon Diet: A 30 Day Program to Lose 5000 Pounds by David Gershon and start an EcoTeam on your block, at work, school or where you worship.  You can also stop by the Culver Way Ecovillage booth at Earth Day to get the lowdown on forming EcoTeams.

Let us know if you’d like to participate in any part of the April 10 work day.  Our next open house and tour on will be on Saturday, April 17th at 11:00.
