On November 6 and 7, the Artists Boutique show returns to the Kirkwood Community Center. Billed as “The Quality Arts and Crafts Show,” Artists Boutique has a reputation for being a top-notch event. Even after many years, this show continues to draw strong crowds and loyal shoppers.
The Artists Boutique group began forty-five years ago as a handful of artists who wanted to exhibit their work. Members took turns hosting the show in their homes until the number of invited guests outgrew the space. The show was moved to a variety of places until it finally found a home at the Kirkwood Community Center. Located at 111 South Geyer Road at Adams, the Community Center is also the site of the Kirkwood Ice Skating Rink. By the time the show settled there, it was a firmly-established event, with a spring show held each March and a fall show on the first weekend each November.
Although a relatively small show by some standards, Artists Boutique is known for its extremely high quality. Applicants to this show regularly outnumber the spaces—a good indicator of the competition among artists to be accepted in this event. This fall’s show will feature some sixty artists whose works include pottery, fine 2-D art, sculpted paper, jewelry of all kinds, unique collector dolls, hand- and machine-knitted baby items, photography, quilted bears and other animals, floral arrangements, painted porcelain, and so much more.
The timing for this fall show is perfect for holiday gift buying. All work is represented by the artists themselves, so shoppers can meet them and learn about the process involved to create each unique piece. Many artists accept special orders to provide a very individualized holiday gifts.
Doors open to the public at 10 a.m. each day and close at 4 p.m. each day. Admission is completely free and there is free parking on the Community Center’s lot.
