Summer Adventures at YMCA Trout Lodge

by Melissa Gilliam

If you’re looking for a place to cool off this summer, YMCA Trout Lodge offers a 360-acre spring-fed lake and more than 40 activities for kids and families.

Sunnen Lake sparkles under the summer sunlight, and the sounds of splashing water and children’s laughter fill the air at the Trout Lodge Waterfront. The swimming area at Trout Lodge offers rope markers that help parents gauge water depth, and lifeguards are on duty all summer long.

Guided snorkeling trips are offered on the lake beginning in mid-July, and the Trout Lodge Waterfront features a waterslide and a lake swing as well. Trout Lodge guests can check out paddleboats, try their hand at windsurfing or take a ride on one of the Lodge’s very popular Pirate Pontoon boat rides.

For guests who like being near the water but prefer to stay dry, pontoon tours are offered and sail boats, John boats, funyaks and canoes are available to check out. There are dozens of ways to enjoy the beautiful 360-acre lake at Trout Lodge, including appreciating the lakefront view from Trout Lodge Guest Rooms and Loft Rooms, each of which features a walk-out patio furnished with a table and chairs.

There are dozens of activities and programs available at Trout Lodge in the summer months. The Arts & Crafts room is open, mini-golf equipment is available to your family, and the Triangle Y Ranch offers horseback rides of various lengths throughout the summer.

New at Trout Lodge in 2011 is the Superman Zip, a 250-foot zip line that lets you fly through the air on your belly, just like Superman! The popular Moonlight Zip is still offered, as well two other zip lines; the Pine’s Zip and the Summit Zip.

If your kids are adventurous, sign them up for Pine’s Peak or Alpine Tower climbing structures. And if you’ve got any real thrill-seekers in the family, make sure they try the Alpine Swing, a combination free-fall and swing set 40 feet in the air.

Trout Lodge presents a spectacular fireworks display nearly every Thursday evening from June through August. As always, all meals and most activities are included in the cost of your stay, and this summer kids stay free on Sunday through Thursday nights in June and August!

From arts & crafts to zip lines, mini-golf to nature hikes, there’s always something for your family to enjoy at Trout Lodge. YMCA Trout Lodge is located 75 miles from St. Louis between Potosi and Steelville, Missouri.
