Is this just grasping at straws or is there actually some reason for hope!
Like most people who are somewhat in the know on these things, I have been experiencing a lot of climate anxiety, uncertainty and outright fear for myself, my family, the community, civilization and the natural world!
I like to think of myself as a realist, so I cannot ignore current trends and projections.
On the other hand, we know that just before every previous ice age, the planet naturally removed a lot of CO2 from the atmosphere, reversing the trend towards hothouse Earth with palm trees at the poles.
We also now have a fairly good understanding of how these natural mechanisms work, along with the realization that there are a lot of things we need to be doing differently, while also approaching the doing itself differently.
Research on both these fronts has been happening since the 70s and is starting to bear fruit in the form of promising practical and affordable ways.
A number of climate solution organizations and industries, including our Just Islands of Coherence Communities of Practice, have completed the initial research phase and are ready to deploy at scale within the next few years.
Once again, this year we are sharing a booth at Earth Day with Citizens Climate Lobby. We plan to have a demonstration of En-ROADS, the MIT developed climate projections simulator, so please stop by so you can see the potential impact of some of the most promising solutions.
