Thermal Imaging – A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words…

By Linda Spradling

Medical Thermography is Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging or “DITI”. A set of thermographic photos is taken measuring temperature patterns and abnormal variations in the body. These photos capture temperature readings sensitive to .01 degree, at a per pixel level. The images are then sent to Certified Medical doctors, specializing in DITI, who interpret the images. Thermographic imaging requires no bodily contact. It is painless, non-evasive, and no radiation is involved.

Thermography detects inflammation in the body. Most disease starts as inflammation. It also gives information about the vascular and lymphatic systems in the body. It is the only means of visualizing pain.

Thermal patterns can indicate the early stages of diseases like breast cancer or carotid artery disease. Thermography can also detect liver, thyroid, and lymphatic issues as well as diabetes, autoimmune disease, and fibromyalgia. With early detection, many health issues can be treated with diet, exercise, and supplements before they become life threatening and require medication or surgery.

For breast cancer screening, a second set (usually taken approximately 3 months later) will help to develop a baseline for your thermal signature. Annual screening is usually sufficient after a baseline is established. Over time the sets of thermal images can be compared to monitor changes and the progression of treatment.
