The St. Louis Public Library has the perfect way to help everyone get healthy and stay healthy. The Baden Branch, 8448 Church Road, hosts its Fourth Annual Living Life Expo! on Saturday, October 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s FREE and open to the public. The Expo! features healthcare professionals who will answer questions and perform routine screenings.
• Bernard Becker Medical Library/Washington University School of Medicine hosts a program for the Elimination of Cancer Disparities.
• Children’s Hospital Family Resource Center answers questions and provides information.
• Engine House 33 & Medic Unit 33 from the City of St. Louis Fire Department discusses fire safety and emergency information.
• The City of St. Louis Health Department provides educational information about lead safety and disaster preparedness.
• Representatives from the nonprofit organization CLAIM (Medicare/Medicaid, Primaris) provide unbiased information about Medicare.
• The Community Health in Partnership Service (CHiPS) offers breast cancer information, blood glucose screening, and blood pressure checks.
• The Missouri Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America has educational and patient-support information for those with lupus.
• Prostrate Cancer Information is available from the nonprofit organization, 100 Black Men.
• The Missouri Lions Club performs vision checks and glaucoma testing.
• Officers from District 6 of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department will be on-hand.
• Other groups that will be onsite providing informational and educational materials include the Department of Veterans Affairs, Health Literacy Missouri, Missouri College Dental Hygiene Dept., the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI), the Riverview West Florissant Development Corporation, and the Sickle Cell Disease Community Advocates.
A St. Louis Public Library Personal Technology Assistant will be available to demonstrate how to use consumer health-related databases as well as how to search the Internet for reliable consumer health-related websites.
There will be plenty of fun things to do including live music with DJ*T*, fortune-telling, juggling, face painting, and a martial arts demonstration by Three Rivers Aikido. Meet the Library’s mascot, Theo Thesaurus. There will be balloons, attendance prizes, and more!
