St. Louis Household Hazardous Waste

By Steve Davies,

So last month I was hoping to finally recycle some items I have had sitting here at home, some probably for a very long time as unfortunately, they are very hard to recycle at your local recycling center. The place I’m planning to take them is called the St. Louis Household Hazardous Waste Dropoff Facility and they have two locations, one down in South St Louis is located at 291 E. Hoffmeisterand one up in Florissant is located at 4100 Seven Hills Dr.

As their name implies, they recycle a variety of hazardous materials from alkaline and rechargeable batteries to stains and paints to pesticides with lots of items in between. The first fifty pounds is free. Anything over that is $1.70 per pound.

I know my load will probably be close to that, I have to say, even if I have more than that, it’s more than worth the price. If you want a complete list, simply head on over to their website. The one thing that you have to do before you go however, is you need to go to their website and make a reservation. I’ve included the link here. If for some reason, that doesn’t work, it’s www.hhwstl.com.

The one in South St. Louis is open on Thursdays, Fridays and most Saturdays. The hours are 8:30 to 11:45 and 1:00 to 5:20 on Thursday and Friday. In between, they’re closed for lunch. On Saturday’s, they’re open 8:00 to 9:50 and 10:30 to 12:50. They’re also closed for lunch in between those hours as well. The one in Florissant is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and most Saturdays with their hours being the same as the one in South St. Louis.

On a humorous note, I tried to go down to the one in South St. Louis a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday but, unfortunately, I guess I didn’t realize they were closed after 1:00. At least I still have all my stuff ready to go and since my reservation is again on a Saturday now I know better.
