In life, there are fleeting opportunities that we reach for, hoping they will become part of our journey. Sometimes, just when we think we have them within our grasp, they slip through the crevices of our fingers, barely escaping us. In those moments, it is natural to feel disappointed, especially when the opportunity seemed so close and felt so right. But perhaps not every opportunity is meant to fit within our hands. Sometimes, what feels like a missed opportunity is simply an opportunity that was never meant for us.
There are no truly missed opportunities in life. If something is meant for us, it will find its way back to us and maybe not immediately, and perhaps not in the way we originally imagined, but when the timing is right, it will make its way into our lives again. Sometimes, we have to trust that things unfold according to a timing greater than what we had envisioned for ourselves. What we may not understand in one moment can become clear when the proper time arrives.
At the time, rejection can feel personal. We may turn inward and wonder, why was I not chosen? What is wrong with me? What could I have done differently? But rejection does not define our worth. Oftentimes, rejection is simply redirection. It closes one door so that we can eventually discover another and one that may lead us somewhere we never knew we needed to go.
We do not always have control over the opportunities that come into our lives or the ones that leave. What we do have control over are the choices we make along the way. Each decision, each detour, and even each disappointment helps shape the path ahead of us.
Rather than mourning what slipped away, perhaps we can learn to trust what remains. What is meant for us will not require us to chase it endlessly or question our worth to keep it. Instead, sometimes the greatest opportunities arrive when we stop holding tightly to what we thought we needed and allow life to make room for something better.
There is comfort in knowing that our story is still unfolding. What feels like an ending today may simply be a redirection toward something more meaningful tomorrow.
