The Power of Simple Kindness

Dr. Gail Cloud

By Dr. Gail Cloud

Today I was approached by a woman, speaking very quietly, who wanted to ask me something.

I at first was in the middle of something and told her to wait a minute. She started to walk away, and thankfully I changed my internal direction and asked her to please stay and ask me her question. She looked clean and clear eyed. She told me a horrible story which involved how poorly we take care of people in need in our country. She is a victim of abuse and left her boyfriend 3 days prior and there are no shelters open. They are all full. She told me I could even come with her to the room she is renting to see that she is telling the truth; I believed her. And even if she was lying, so what? She needed half the rent so that she could stay another night and hope that a shelter opened the next day.

I did give her some money. It is the least I can do.

It makes me so sad to see what is happening right in front of us. I almost let an opportunity to be kind go. It is so easy to do so. We all get so wrapped up in our lives and our dramas and our “doing” that we often aren’t open to little acts of kindness that can be so lacking.

So, take the time and do a little act that enfolds in your life. Let’s keep our eyes open so that we can respond. After all, we need connection and a village for our own happiness.

This is just a reminder to me and to us.

If you feel like it, please share a little act of kindness you were able to provide to someone.

See you next week. I enjoy being a guide to you being your own agent of health.
