Fragrance, Hypnosis, and the Art of Inner Stillness
At the Heartland Hypnosis Conference, learning extends beyond technique and theory. It becomes experiential, embodied, and deeply human. This year’s conference offers a rare opportunity to engage one of the most immersive and transformative experiences available in the field of hypnosis and consciousness work: The Incense Journey™ – An Evening of Fragrance and Hypnosis, presented by John Launius, Kōmoto and Certified Hypnotherapist.
Rooted in ancient spiritual traditions and informed by modern neuroscience and hypnotic practice, The Incense Journey™ is not simply a lecture or demonstration. It is a guided experience designed to bring participants into profound relaxation, heightened awareness, and direct relationship with the subconscious mind through scent.
Saturday, April 25 | 4:00–6:00 PM
The Incense Journey™ – An Evening of Fragrance and Hypnosis
Free for conference attendees | $20 for the public
This two-hour evening experience invites participants into a carefully structured hypnotic journey supported by high-quality, all-natural, smokeless incense. Each incense is selected not for novelty, but for its historic use, energetic quality, and ability to engage the limbic system, the part of the brain most closely tied to memory, emotion, and regulation.
Under John Launius’s guidance, participants are led into deep hypnosis while fragrance becomes both anchor and ally. The result is a state of calm that is felt physically, emotionally, and mentally. Stress softens. The mind slows. Attention sharpens without effort.
The experience supports:
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Enhanced mental clarity and focus
- Emotional balance and regulation
- Increased confidence and internal steadiness
Rather than being told about hypnosis, participants experience it directly, allowing them to understand how scent can accelerate induction, deepen trance, and gently guide the nervous system toward coherence and ease.
Chairs will be available for those who prefer not to lie down, though participants are encouraged to bring yoga mats, blankets, bolsters, or pillows to create a level of comfort that allows the body to fully rest and receive the work.
Sunday, April 26 | 1:00–3:00 PM
Distinctions of Fragrance Hypnosis™
On Sunday afternoon, John Launius presents Distinctions of Fragrance Hypnosis™, an educational and experiential session designed for hypnotists, practitioners, and serious students of consciousness work who want to understand whyfragrance works so powerfully in hypnotic settings.
This session explores:
- The relationship between scent, memory, and the subconscious
- How fragrance bypasses conscious resistance
- Why certain resins, woods, and botanicals have been used ritually for thousands of years
- Practical distinctions between aromatherapy and Fragrance Hypnosis™
- How fragrance can be ethically and effectively integrated into hypnotic practice
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how fragrance functions not as an accessory, but as a precision tool for state change, emotional regulation, and subconscious access.
A Rare Integration of Ancient and Modern Practice
John Launius brings decades of training and experience to this work. As a Kōmoto in the Japanese tradition of The Way of Incense, and as a certified hypnotherapist, his approach bridges lineage-based wisdom with contemporary hypnotic application. His work is known for being grounded, respectful, and deeply effective, offering participants a sense of calm that does not require effort or belief, only participation.
At the Heartland Hypnosis Conference, these sessions stand out as opportunities to slow down, drop beneath technique, and remember that hypnosis is ultimately about relationship: with breath, with sensation, with awareness, and with the self.
Whether you are a seasoned hypnotist, a student, or a member of the public seeking meaningful inner work, The Incense Journey™ and Distinctions of Fragrance Hypnosis™ offer experiences that are restorative, clarifying, and quietly transformative.
