So, it’s this time of year when I think I find it hardest to follow the 3 R’s as often as I should, be it taking our trash and recycling bins out to the curb on time, donating clothes or household items to our local used stores or even just taking food out back to compost. Most of that I think is because it’s cold, like it is tonight and so when I get home after a long day, I just want to sit inside and not go anywhere or do anything.
That being said, if you’re stuck inside, then you should do the next best thing and that’s, work with what you already have. The first thing I started with was doing what I usually do this time of year and that’s clean. Now I know I’ve written about that before but, this time I’ve started with my bedroom first and then I also included my oldest son and his bedroom as well.
As I’ve also talked about before and just like tonight, my son has gotten into the habit of picking things up when we’re out running errands and either taking them home to recycle or throwing them in a nearby trash can if they’re not recyclable. What he’s not so good at and I think he gets this in part from me, is he’s not as good with his bedroom at home.
So, I’ve started by getting ready to donate my old nightstand this weekend and then next I’m going to donate a small table in my bedroom soon as well. For my son, I moved an antique trunk that we had in the living room into my bedroom and in turn, bought a set of bookshelves for the living room that he could use.
Once I told him to put his books on them, he then proceeded to fill the shelves completely. I guess that’s what you get when he’s the son of a librarian. What he also did however, was donate a few of his old books from when he was young. Okay, I may not be as good at that as I should be. Something to work on.
Now as for the tree’s above, well, I guess I just want to make sure we have plenty of room for them. After all, it’s a planet of trees with people on it, not a planet of people with trees on it.
