Today I am talking about the importance of living day to day.
If you are like me and most of us, we often are living in our stories from the past, or we are thinking about the future and in our own ways, trying to control our future by planning what that might look like. That can be helpful at times in terms of visualizing what you would like to happen, making a plan for a goal, or thinking about something we want to accomplish. But in terms of being in the future in order to control our lives, that doesn’t usually work. In fact, trying to control outcomes causes us stress. And stress is hard on us, makes everything more difficult, and can cause lack of sleep and even illness.
The only way I know that does work is for us to be in the here and now, learn to be engaged in us, our bodies, our lives right now! We can and we do reframe our old stories. But can we really control what is going to happen in the future? Being here, right now, using our minds, our senses, our perceptions, means we are tuning into ourselves and the environment surrounding us. From this place we can really hear what others are saying. We can be with our feelings and our thoughts, and we can hear the sounds surrounding us and not just our internal chatter. We become part of everything. We integrate with ourselves and this is how change happens; through integration.
Give this a try. Spend 5 to 10 to 15 minutes consciously doing this process and see how you are afterwards. It can be transforming.
