Recycling 101… Spring Cleaning

Well, I think it’s safe to say that with both the little snow we had on the ground last month, along with the chill in the air having now moved on, Spring is well on its way. Actually, it seems like Spring has been here for a while with the actual season just around the corner, so I think it’s safe to say spring cleaning is also well on its way as well.

With that said of course, I think it’s time to continue where we left off with our discussion of reuse, reduce and recycle. Now, hopefully you’ve had a chance to get to work on reducing what you have around the house. I have to say that I had the chance to donate quite a bit of stuff like the kid’s old toys, before the holidays, it felt really, really good to give them a new home.

Now while I’ve enjoyed donating those items to those wanting to give them a new life, I’m also beginning to look at what I have that I can reuse. Among the gifts I received was a giant metal tub of popcorn from my sister for Christmas. As I’m sitting here writing, I actually have an idea. Believe it or not, I have some Christmas lights sitting in a bag waiting to go up into the attic the next time I go up there. Well, I’m thinking that maybe I could use that tub for those Christmas lights.

Last but, not least though, we’ll finish off here with where we first started, recycling. What I’ve started with first is paper. In addition to shredding and recycling document like my paper bills from last year, I’ve also started going through any old papers I have laying around the house including those on our refrigerator to remind us of past events along with the ones sitting by my bed like magazines and newspapers that I’ve been meaning to read but, never got around too.

I’ve also started going through any old plastic and glass containers up in our cupboards that we may use for food leftovers along with any boxes that we have in our closets throughout our house or up in our attic for storage.

So, while Spring may technically still be on the way, I’m going to get back to recycling all the aforementioned articles that are still sitting around our house. Who knows, I might even find a few more things to reuse and reduce. Happy Spring everyone!
