At the risk of sounding overly dramatic, there is something powerful about choosing a date with destiny, and committing to take sufficient action to turn around a course set by others and thereby forge a future that was not going to happen otherwise.
Since May 3, 2018 is our D-Day with City officials when together we can squelch any talk of tearing it down and substitute a conversation for building the community, it seems only fitting that this date with destiny should be on May 3 which is the National Day of Prayer. Let’s also make it a Day of Progress for Humanity.
This is also fitting because we have a huge opportunity right now to start moving both the Arizmendi Ecovillage, and by extension civilization and the planet, out of harm’s way as a target for the wrecking ball and onto the pathway of progress and drawdown, i.e. that point in space and time where global warming and lots of other seemingly endemic challenges, like social fragmentation, racism, sexism, environmental degradation, hunger, poverty, infant mortality, etc., start to subside and greenhouse gases and other forms of human generated hot air that are threatening people and the planet are being drawn out of our vocabulary, consciousness, atmosphere and oceans.
Let’s have May 3, 2018 be a new beginning for Arizmendi Ecovillage and everything else. Let’s start working together instead of at cross purposes. Let’s come up with a little seed capital and time and use that to draw down a whole lot more of the same. Let’s put pencils to paper, finish the design and crunch the numbers in short order so that we can start building by midyear.
Please join us on Saturday, April 7, for a community empowerment party when we will celebrate what has already been accomplished, acknowledge our founding fathers and mothers who have joined the Arizmendi angel choir, Father José Maria, Tim Montgomery, Gail Borden, Lisi Bansen and Rosemary Leahey, welcome new members and create what’s next.
