What Can I Take To Prevent A Heart Attack?

Q: Since February is Heart Health Month, what can I do to protect myself from a having a heart attack?

A: Cardiovascular disease is a huge problem in this country. You are very smart to think about prevention rather than waiting until the unthinkable happens. Of course, exercise and diet play a very important role in preventing heart disease. By adding a variety of supplements to support heart health, you can do quite a bit to help keep your heart healthy.

Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10, is very important in protecting your heart. It is a naturally occurring nutrient found in virtually every cell in the human body. It is primarily used for energy production at the cellular level, which is why it is so important for the heart. It strengthens the heart and helps protect it from further damage. Research has shown that when CoQ10 levels are low, that is when a heart attack can occur.
Taking an essential fatty acid such as Omega-3 can reduce the risk of heart disease. Other good fats include coconut oil and flax seed oil.

L-Carnitine is an important amino acid that improves energy production and oxygen utilization in the heart.

L-Arginine is one thousand times more powerful than any naturally occurring antioxidant in the body. It’s properties support various body systems and may protect against heart disease and stroke.

Magnesium is a critical mineral for heart health. It helps the heart and blood vessels to relax, which reduces stress on the heart. It also protects against spasms and lowers blood pressure. About half of the population is deficient in magnesium.

B Vitamins are helpful in lowering homocysteine levels and B6 may help prevent hardening of the arteries.

Hawthorn Berries and Garlic are also important herbal supplements to help keep the heart healthy.
