Improved Quality of Life: The Path to Wellness

By Dr. Paul Hyland

“Chiropractic patients enjoy increased flexibility, improved posture, improved or eliminated pain, a more relaxed and calm state, and an enhanced energy level—in short, an improved overall quality of life.” —Discover Wellness

A complete approach to WELLNESS begins with chiropractic care, good nutrition, health education and fitness. Chiropractic is typically associated most closely with back pain, neck pain and headaches. We can effectively treat many other conditions ranging from plantar fasciitis to carpal tunnel syndrome, all without surgery. Pain relief is only the tip of the iceberg. Wellness includes things like: improved immune function, reduced inflammation, reduced hypertension, stress reduction and improved balance. Chiropractic care can help these and more.

“We are what we eat” is a common phrase, but what does this mean? In the world of nutrition, a healthy diet is like putting clean gas into your car. Do so and it runs great. Put poor quality gas in your car and you get a sputtering heap that will leave you stuck at the side of the road while life passes you by. Choosing fatty, sugary and/or calorie dense foods may taste good, but various health problems can develop. We just finished seeing the world’s best athletes competing in the Olympics. Do you think they would be performing at their best with a diet of junk food?

A person that makes educated choices about their health is more likely to be healthier then someone that “wings it”. Winging it might make life simple in the beginning, but makes things more complicated when more serious decisions need to be made. One bad decision on top of another just compounds problems, in this case “health problems”. The “healthy” decision is not always the easy one, yet vital to the concept of good health and wellness.

A well-adjusted spine, a healthy diet and health knowledge do us no good if we do not add in a key ingredient, fitness. Fitness is important for cardiovascular, respiratory and musculoskeletal health allowing us to move, breathe and basically live better lives.

“Exercise” is a bad word to many people; however, it does not have to be as intense as an Olympian’s routine. There are ways to make exercise fun or at least less mundane. Regardless of whether it is fun or not, it is vital for our existence.

Bringing these concepts together in your life will help maximize your health and wellness. Let us help you to achieve this in your life.
