It’s A New Year – How About A New You?

Dr. Amy Davis

By Amy Davis, M.D.

The growing obesity problem globally has become too large to ignore. Almost one-third of the world’s population is overweight and more than one-third of Americans are obese. The estimated global cost per year is 2 trillion dollars. Being overweight is not just a cosmetic issue – it causes serious health issues. Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes and cancers. Fat is where much of the toxic burden is stored. The more fat we add – the more toxic we become.

A BMI (body mass index) over 25 is considered overweight and a BMI over 30 is considered obese. The BMI is an estimate of body fat.

What has changed in the last twenty years that is contributing to the problem?

  • Fast food restaurants
  • Prepackaged processed food
  • Hidden sugars and increased consumption, deceptive marketing and labels
  • High stress work and lifestyle
  • Poor quality foods are cheaper
  • Introduction of Genetically Modified
  • Organisms
  • Increased use of pesticides
  • Not enough exercise
  • Lack of balance between work
  • and relaxation

The good news is that weight loss has a significant positive impact on these diseases reducing and even eliminating them. Diet is a powerful modifiable risk factor and should be the first approach used for prevention and treatment of disease.

FOOD IS MEDICINE.
Developing and following a healthy lifestyle is of utmost importance to prevent disease. Foods that are anti-inflammatory, plenty of water, adequate sleep and reduced exposure to toxins all contribute to restoring health. When you lose fat – you remove toxins. You feel lighter – you are lighter.

FOOD IS FUEL.
The “fuel” or food that you choose is critical to achieve optimal health.
At Crossing Back to Health we are excited to offer the SHAPE ReClaimed Program which is a Physician monitored Lifestyle Modification and Health Restoration Program. This program shines a spotlight on negative eating habits that contribute to common health challenges. It has proven successful for thousands across the country and is safe, affordable and sustainable. Additionally it supports a healthy weight. Regular monitoring and adjustments during the program helps to ensure long term success. We can also support Emotional Release to aid in the transformation. Immune function improves. Toxic burden is reduced. Energy improves. Attention and clarity improves. Weight loss occurs.

Start 2015 off right and let us help you achieve Optimal Health.
