“LOVE”
It’s that time of year when countless numbers of people will be using creative ways to show their love to someone special. Flowers! Candy! Special Dinner! Gifts!
Love, what an amazing thing. Thousands of songs written, books, poems, movies, you name it! Our culture is fascinated by this thing we call “LOVE”. We chase after it. We grieve deeply when we lose it. The human spirit seems to keep looking for it, sadly though, sometimes in all the wrong places. Let’s take a look at what is Love really.
The Bible has a wonderful definition. It seems to be embraced throughout the many faith traditions around the world. The Apostle Paul in a letter to the people of Corinth described love the following way. He is presenting the belief that if we do not have love than we have nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails.
So, in my way of thinking, love is much more than a feeling. It is the essence of our being and the instrument that bonds us together. Consummate love is synergistic. It adds to us. It Empowers. It seeks Ultimate “Purpose”, “Meaning” and “Hope” in life. It is the key to Wholeness!
One of my most favorite scriptures in the Bible is in the book of 1 John. It states: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
For me, Love is the Divine and Sacredness of God in us! It is what we are created to be. It can enable us to defeat the destructive forces of Fear, Guilt, Shame, Blame and Anger that robs us from our health and wellbeing.
So, on this Valentine’s Day don’t send or give a Valentine gift, “BE THE GIFT”. Happy Valentine’s Day!
