Join the Science Center this November to celebrate the annual Festival of Science, a collection of special events that celebrates the wide world of science and technology. Events run November 2 through November 17 and feature different opportunities for all age ranges.
The Festival kicks off with First Friday: Science Goes Wild on November 2. Take a walk on the wilder side of science through hands-on activities, demonstrations and a special presentation. Visitors will be introduced to two endangered species living in the Science Center’s own Life Science Lab. First Friday events also provide visitors a chance to visit the James S. McDonnell Planetarium to take advantage of free dark night sky shows and telescope viewings facilitated by the St. Louis Astronomical Society.
On November 5, the Science Center and the St. Louis Symphony team up to offer Science with the Symphony: Here Comes the Sun. This performance from the Symphony’s Strings of Arda provides an evening of unique entertainment under the dome and stars of the Planetarium. This event is recommended for adults and will feature an eclectic musical score that pays tribute to the sun. This event is free to the public, but tickets are required.
On Saturday, November 10, the Family Fun Day event will feature engaging interactive activities, wacky experiments and amazing presentations. A special appearance of “Wings Over Water” by the World Bird Sanctuary, sponsored by Missouri American Water, will help families learn how all birds of prey and wildlife depend on the safety and sustainability of our water supply. Visitors can also watch as the World Bird Sanctuary releases rehabilitated birds back into Forest Park. Community and corporate partners will also be onsite demonstrating how science affects our area. Family Fun Day is free to the public and a great way for families to engage with science in a highly interactive way.
The Festival of Science will conclude with HealthFest on Saturday, November 17. HealthFest features dozens of health-related exhibitors from the St. Louis metro-area. All of the exhibitors offer information on healthy lifestyles and health-related services, provide free health screenings for all ages, hand out great giveaways and more.
