Irresistible Community Builders Presents: Take an Action, Tell the Story, Give a Gift

by Tom & Carol Braford

Would you like to give yourself, your children and your grandchildren the gift of a secure civilization and planet?

One of our mentors and heroes is Sam Daley Harris. Back in the ‘80’s, Sam joined the Hunger Project and gave talks about how to end world hunger. He found that most people wanted to make a difference but didn’t think they could make a difference by themselves.
He learned that there were more than enough resources in the world to feed everyone, but still millions of children were going hungry and thousands were dying every day of preventable causes.

At first, Sam was resigned that we would ever get it together and then, as he tells in this book, Reclaiming our Democracy, he realized that there was one person whose actions he could impact, his own. So over time, he created RESULTS and the Microcredit Summit, and more recently he coached others to create the Citizens Climate Lobby, all small groups of people taking effective action.

As a result, half as many children are dying today of preventable causes, over 100 million families now have access to microcredit, the Keystone pipeline is on hold and a bill for effective climate legislation has just been introduced in the US Congress.

And it’s all because Sam decided to take action and tell the story of what was possible.
So we are taking our cue from Sam’s playbook as we create the Culver Way Ecovillage. All we have to do is to take actions in our own lives and communities and tell the story of what is possible. You can read about what this makes possible in the weekly blog posting on our website, and you can join us to discover actions you can take that will tip our planet onto a sustainable course.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has”.
Margaret Mead
US anthropologist & popularizer
of anthropology  (1901 – 1978)

Join us in securing the greatest gift that we have already been given but take for granted, i.e., a sustainable civilization and planet. On Saturday, January 21st, we will have our monthly tour and open house at 11:00, followed by a potluck lunch.
