Villa di Maria Offers Children Opportunity To Develop Self Esteem & Independence

At Villa di Maria, we provide an environment to meet the intellectual, social, physical and spiritual needs of the child. Children are encouraged to tackle challenging tasks and thereby develop greater self esteem and independence. We strive to foster a respect for the natural world and peace with other human beings.

Our program has a strong academic curriculum and stresses life skills like problem solving, courteous behavior and self-expression. Students are encouraged to actively participate in their own learning and are allowed the freedom to develop at their own, individual pace. Our goal is to kindle the flame within to inspire a lifelong passion for learning.

WHAT IS MONTESSORI?

Dr. Maria Montessori, the first Italian female physician, used her background in medical science and psychology to observe the growth and development of children. With these observations of children over many years and around the world, she developed the Montessori method of education. This method is designed to meet the needs of children and allow them freedom within limits as they complete their task of inner construction throughout each stage of childhood. It succeeds because it draws its principles from the natural development of the child. Each child’s unique personality is encouraged and each is given respect as an important member of a community.

ACCREDITATION

Villa di Maria Montessori School is one of only four schools recognized by Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) in the St. Louis area. AMI, founded by Dr. Maria Montessori, maintains Montessori educational principles and offers teacher training throughout the world.

THE CHILDREN’S HOUSE

(2.5 – 6+ YEARS)

The ideal age to enroll in a Montessori program is between 2.5 and 3.5 years of age. A child of this age has what Dr. Montessori called an “absorbent mind” with the ability to take in every aspect of their world.  Presentations are offered individually and in small groups.  This allows students to work at their own pace.  The specially designed materials inspire independent activity. Maintaining the same environment for three years nurtures security, builds confidence and provides a framework in which intellectual and social development can grow.  Each classroom is a busy, productive environment full of joy and respect.

We also offer an Elementary program through 6th grade. We welcome and encourage interested families to visit our school.  Please contact us to schedule a personal tour and observation: 314-822-2601 or visit our website at www.villadimaria.org.
