Sidewalk shoppers stop in daily to visit Sarah Wood the owner. Sarah says, “Since opening in April, I’ve received wonderful feedback from the community. I love explaining to my customers that they are helping others across the world by buying fair trade products. Plus, by featuring local artists I am consistently meeting new people who appreciate creativity.”
The store’s motto is “Changing the World One Gift at a Time”… but how?
First, Rosemary Grove offers a wide variety of fair trade gifts. When a customer purchases a fair trade gift, he/she is supporting a group of people who are working to eradicate poverty – globally, nationally, locally.
Sarah says, “We all know about the social and economic inequalities of women in 3rd world countries, but fair trade does much more than just empowering women. When a woman is able to work to support her family, her children will stay in school and she can afford basic necessities such as food, clothing, clean water and health care. Their added contribution to the community builds infrastructure to benefit generations yet to come.”
Second, Rosemary Grove features artists – global, national and local alike. “The ‘art’ of creating something with an idea and two hands should be celebrated, admired and supported. There are some exceptionally talented people in this world and I am honored to shine the spotlight on their work.” Sarah says.
Rosemary Grove is also spreading awareness by hosting Gift Giving Parties at the store or at another location. This is a new concept designed to alter consumers’ idea of gift-giving into “giving back” gift giving. Guests learn the benefits of supporting fair trade organizations who support farmers, crafters and artists. Plus, guests are introduced to some amazing global and local artists as well. There are many perks of hosting a party: product discounts, free store products & special recognition at a quarterly cocktail reception.
