The Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House is offering an added excuse to plan a visit – half-price extended evening hours on Wednesdays all summer long! The Butterfly House will stay open late from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Half-price evening admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children (ages 3 to 12); children ages 2 and under are free.
Stroll through the lushly-planted Tropical Conservatory to witness thousands of tropical butterflies in free flight, from the orange barred tiger to the iridescent blue morpho to the delicate paper kite. Enjoy animal encounters in the Grand Hall, where yellow taxi cab beetles, Florida walking sticks, tarantulas, scorpions and cockroaches await. Watch the miracle of metamorphosis occur right in front of your eyes, and take in a showing of “The Butterfly Effect” short film inside the Emerson Theater. Stop by the Madame Butterfly Gift Shop for a parting butterfly-themed souvenir.
The Butterfly House is located at 15193 Olive Blvd. at Faust Park in Chesterfield, Mo., accessible from Interstate 64 at exit #19B. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays (closed Mondays); Memorial Day to Labor Day, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Half-price Wednesday evening hours are from 5 to 7 p.m., June 1 through August 31, 2011. The last ticket is sold 30 min. prior to closing each day.
Regular daytime Butterfly House admission is $6 for adults, $4.50 for seniors (ages 65 and over), and $4 for children (ages 3 to 12). Children ages 2 and under and Missouri Botanical Garden members are free.
