An Herbalist’s View Of Covid-19

By Kimberly Ward, Herbalist

COVID-19. Unfortunately, a common name amongst most households these days. Lots of questions too… How is it spread? How do we fight it? How do we protect ourselves against it?, etc… We’re in some crazy times!!!!! But, we will get through. As an owner of an herbal store, Kim’s Herbs & Detox Center, I get a lot of questions about COVID-19 and how to protect ourselves. This is my personal recommendation from an herbalist’s point of view:

Vitamin C, Vitamin C, Vitamin C! Load up on Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a very potent antioxidant, it positively affects your immune system (helps phagocytes function, promotes lymphocytes,…), and can help with lung inflammation (based on recent studies).

Vitamin D3! Vitamin D3 is crucial for your immune system. The best way to get it is from the Sun…but, that’s not always possible. Great supplements are available. Older adults, darker skinned people, people getting a limited amount of sun exposure are high risk groups for Vitamin D3 deficiencies. It’s definitely an immune system booster and is crucial during this pandemic

Zinc! Zinc is a powerful trace mineral that’s present in all bodily tissues and is critical for healthy cell division. In the body, it acts like a powerful antioxidant and is a big supporter of our immune system. It’s also very beneficial against colds and upper respiratory infections. (Zinc is great for gut health too… FYI).

ANTIVirals. Since Corona is a virus, we must fight it with “virus fighters”. Some common anti-virals that I recommend include: Oil of Oreganol, Olive Leaf Extract and Elderberry.

And of course, we need to social distance, wear masks in public places (as required by local govt and businesses), and look out for ourselves and our neighbors. We all need to work together to fight this novel virus. We ALL want some sense of normalcy in the very near future.

STAY SAFE OUT THERE FAM!
I’m PRAYING for us all.
