City House Country Mouse Flourishes, Expands To Brick & Mortar Storefront

Open house August 16-18 will celebrate its new digs and a new style of flower shop

What began in 2012 with one woman starting a flower and garden venture out of her home has grown enough to transplant into a brick and mortar storefront this August on The Hill in St. Louis city. City House Country Mouse is a new twist on what one might expect to find at a typical florist shop. Find out what sets it apart during the open house August 16-18 at 2105 Marconi Ave., 63110. Times for the flower studio open house are Thursday, Aug. 16, 4-8 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 17, 2-8 p.m.; and Saturday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

City House Country Mouse Founder and Owner, Kate Estwing shared how her small business has grown from helping residents across St. Louis with their gardens and blossomed into providing floral arrangements for weddings, businesses, events, and homes. “It was very organic and made sense. I saw a huge industry involving the beauty of nature, but also saw a lot of waste occurring within the industry. I knew I wanted to help people explore fresh, unique local flowers and find ways to provide artful arrangements with references to the garden.”

She continued, “cutting down on waste and plastic use is a hot topic, but you don’t always see the production waste that’s happening when you purchase a flower arrangement. I’m happy to offer services that I know are cutting down or eliminating inorganic waste from the process.”

She also believes in and supports what is known as the slow flower movement.
“In essence, the slow flower movement is about using local, seasonal, and domestic flowers and plants,” Estwing explained. “At City House Country Mouse, we love making garden-inspired arrangements that are whimsical and imperfect, applauding nature’s ways and making art to imitate life. In a nutshell we want to bring nature to your home, wedding, or event.”
