Acai Berry Helps Combat Cancer Cells

By Ari Khagi

Everybody knows that eating fresh vegetables and fruits is very good for our health. Do you know that these products have been proven to reduce the risk factors of getting chronic disorders like cancer and different heart diseases? Such fruits as mangoes and grapes containing antioxidants were scientifically tested to destroy cancer cells. One fruits of this kind is commonly found in the areas of the river Amazon in Brazil. It contains the richest concentration of antioxidants than any other fruit. This fruit is well known to the Brazilians as acai berry.

Acai berry grows on a palm tree named the Euterpe Oleracea. The berry is around the size of blueberries. Acai berry is with a large seed and a dark, thick, purple skin. Actually Brazilian tribes have known the medical benefits of the fruit for a long time and have been using it for many generations in managing skin problems and troubles with digestion.

The extracts of acai berry have already been produced and have been available in the USA for about five years. The marketing promotion claims that acai berry is useful for reducing cholesterol levels, detoxifying the digestive system, losing weight, and raising energy levels. But all these claims were not based on some scientific evidence. That’s why in 2005, the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences in Florida made a control testing of the wonderful powers of acai berry. The tests completed, they published the discoveries they made in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry edition in January 2006. And the thing is that the results showed that dependant on the contraction and the sample of the extracts, acai berry was indeed capable to trigger about 35 – 86% of cancerous leukemia cells to self destruct.

Oprah Winfrey made a list of 10 superfoods which also includes the acai berry: acai, barley, the Alliums family, buckwheat, beans and lentils, hot peppers, green foods, sprouts, seeds and nuts, kefir and yogurt.

The Acai pulp is comprised of ten times more antioxidants than there is in red grapes. The high antioxidants concentration is useful and effective for combating premature aging.

Dietary fiber, monounsaturated fats as well as phytosterols are really good for the digestive and cardiovascular systems of the body.
