INTRODUCTION TO HATHA
YOGA SERIES WELL WORTH CONSIDERING FOR THE CURRENT STATE
OF AFFAIRS
By Lucy Holmes, E-RYT 500
In these stressful, fast-paced times, with the rising
cost of living and increasing concern about the state
of the planet, a consistent yoga practice can be a powerful
and important means of support for both well-being and
a sense of connection.
Generally Yoga promotes ideas of physical health, self-acceptance,
non-violence, and compassion for all beings. An Introduction
to Hatha Yoga series may be just what is needed to initiate
more folks in the practice of Yoga, which in turn can
support healthier, more productive ways to deal with
life’s current stresses.
One advantage of an Introduction to Hatha Yoga Series
is its hierarchal nature. Each class builds on the previous
one and the student who commits to coming to all of
the classes receives a solid grounding in the basic
postures, alignment principles, breathing techniques,
as well as meditation/relaxation methodologies. Another
advantage is learning some background on yoga, as there
is information on yoga history and philosophy. For many
the biggest plus is that the course emphasizes the importance
of unity and community; classes can include some partner
work, which is a great way to have fun while learning!
And because it is a series, the same students attend
every week, building familiarity and group support for
everyone's positive experience. And finally, there is
the balance of a level playing field, with everyone
starting as a fresh beginner, each individual contributing
her or his unique qualities to the classes to create
a whole greater than the sum of its parts. Thus an Intro
to Hatha Yoga Series can provide a safe, effective environment
for dealing with stress while building a strong, supple
body and a focused, relaxed mind.
Currently YogaSource is offering the Introduction to
Hatha Yoga Series on various days and times during the
week. The courses start in September and run through
October 2008. (See accompanying ad for more details
on times, days, and prices).
