“Green” Baby
Nurseries: Not Just a Fad
By: Fernanda Pinzon - Co-owner / NewBornMom
While it’s true that in the past 5 years we’ve
seen a major upsurge of all things “green”
mostly because rich fashionistas and celebrities have
made it a trend – it’s also true that the
demand for eco-products is due to the vast availability
of information, and the desire of today’s consumer
to learn more about what they’re consuming. This
concern is specially emphasized when it comes time for
new parents to start shopping for their baby’s nursery
and layette essentials, and rightfully so. There’s
nothing more vulnerable to its environment than a newborn
baby, so it’s up to us parents to become eco-savvy
in order to make the right decisions and keep our bundles
of joy safe from potential health risks.
As a “green” mom-prenuer of two healthy
girls I know all too well how nerve-racking it can be
for first-time parents to try and figure out which products
to look for, and which to stay away from. And sometimes
having access to so much information on the internet
can be confusing and overwhelming, instead of helpful.
I remember my business partner and I getting pregnant
with our first child…right around the same time…
and feeling the need to surround them only with eco-safe
products. We didn’t know where or what to buy
exactly; we just knew the baby products needed to be
environmentally friendly yet modern. Needless to say,
we searched for months before we found all our baby
basics and completed our “green” nurseries.
Realizing how dispersed all these resources were, and
knowing there had to be other eco-chic moms looking
for the same type of items – we founded NewBornMom
in 2007. Today hip parents all over the U.S. and Canada
shop at our online boutique because they know here they
can find 100% eco-friendly and stylish baby goods -
plus there’s no driving required, no waiting in
line; just hassle-free shopping from the comfort of
your own home.
For all those parents who want to “go green”
but aren’t sure which products to invest in (as
eco goods tend to be a bit more expensive than conventional
ones) - below is a basic list of things you should consider-
not because it’s a fad, but because this way you
can significantly reduce the amount of toxic substances
your sweet pea is exposed to since birth.
• Crib
• Mattress
• Bedding
• Skincare
• Feeding Basics
• Diapers
• Clothing

the most commonly used ingredients.
