Shopping Nirvana: Whole
Foods Market Opens Second Store In Town & Country
by Heidi Schoen - Healthy Planet Green Living Editor
In the beautiful green rolling Texas Hill country, the
first store opened in 1980. Austin Texas - the birthplace
of Whole Foods Market. It was large for its time at 10,500
square feet and a mere 19 employees. Since that time,
Whole Foods Market has grown substantially to have an
international presence.
Fast forward to the year 2001, Whole Foods Market opened
its first St. Louis store in Brentwood, technically the
Galleria store. A 34,000 square foot layout filled with
tasty samples, healthy food, supplements galore and green
products all in one location.
Shop anytime at the Galleria store and it’s happily
humming with people like friendly beer buyer and team
member, Andy Snead. On a Friday or Saturday night, it’s
a shopping-social Mecca of retail nirvana proportions.
It was destiny driven by public demand when a second St.
Louis regional Whole Foods Market was born in Town and
Country near the intersection of Woods Mill and Clayton
roads.
The new Whole Foods Market encompasses 55,000 square feet
and was built using many green building practices such
as a white roof reducing the urban heat island effect;
solar powered trash compactor; Big Ass (ceiling) Fans©
which operate on pennies-per-day and circulate large amounts
of air to increase efficiencies of heating and cooling,
night curtains on refrigeration cases saving up to 50%
in energy consumption. The entire list of Green Elements
is extensive and impressive and displayed in the café
area.
There is no shortage of delectable food at the new Town
and Country store. As shoppers stroll around the store,
their senses will be captured by smells such as fresh
baked artisan bread wafting in the air and mouth-watering
samples beckoning in each department. The store is simply
an oasis of fresh healthy foods. Of course, there is more
to Whole Foods Market than food. The Lifestyle Center
offers classes and cooking demonstrations by local chefs
and the Whole Body department is filled with a wide variety
of personal care products, dietary supplements and green
living items.
The enduring quality of Whole Foods Market is peace of
mind for consumers. They know that shopping there means
consistently finding high quality items in an inviting
and enriching environment surrounded by interesting and
friendly team members prepared to guide you through your
culinary journey.
