Mandalas Every Day - Creativity Every Day

By Linda Wiggen Kraft

One of our greatest longings is to express our creativity, to create something uniquely our own that embodies our creative energy and brings satisfaction, joy and contentment in the process. Yet we often don't nurture our creative spirits because we are too busy or don't know what creative endeavor will tap into our soul and deeply enhance our lives.

Fortunately one of the easiest and most deeply fulfilling ways to experience and express creativity is by creating mandalas. Mandala means circle and center in Sanskrit. Mandalas are seen in many nature forms. Most flowers, snowflakes, pinecones, shells and many natural shapes are mandala shapes.

The power of the circle with a center point is profound. Creating mandalas has the effect of centering, connecting with creative spirit, clearing, bringing peace and joy to their creator's lives. Mandalas have been used for thousands of years in spiritual and healing traditions throughout the world. Their impact and power is just as strong today as it has always been. The challenge is how to fit the making of mandalas into our busy modern lives.

My journey with mandalas began five years ago. I created art most of my life and was trained as an artist. I took a break from making art while raising my children and growing my garden design business. Five years ago I knew I had to create art in a way that fit into my busy life and would have deep meaning. If I didn't answer to my creative spirit's call, something in me would die. But what and how could I create?
I put sketch pads in my purse and near my meditation chair. I began to doodle in idle times and after meditation. Spontaneously I began to doddle mandalas. I took the doodles and created large watercolors. The mandala shape inspired fine art photography of a flower's mandala shape. These paintings and photos are now sold as greeting cards and fine art prints throughout the country. I began teaching mandala and meditation classes to help others easily connect with their creative spirits and fulfill that longing to create something with deep meaning. My latest project is a mandala coloring kit called "Mandalas Every Day". This kit has postcard-sized mandalas that can be easily colored every day.
