YMCA Camp Lakewood – it’s not just any overnight summer camp. It’s that special time, at that perfect place, with friends, fun and memories your children ages 6-17 will take with them throughout their lives. Help them to high-five every accomplishment, celebrate their growing independence and their wonder of the world around them through the gift of summer camp.
Camp Lakewood gets kids outdoors, making friends and conquering new skills. With 5,200 acres, large lake, cave, creeks and ranch, there are almost endless opportunities for adventure and exploration, all within the safe YMCA environment. Kids experience climbing towers, zip lines, horseback riding, swimming, boating, archery, riflery, paintball, sports activities, crafts, banana boat, crazy campfire, no-hands spaghetti dinner, mud cave, volleyball and much more. New in 2020 is a huge inflatable water park!
Four-day mini sessions are offered, perfect for the first-time campers (ages 6-8), or for campers who want a specialty camp, such as ranch camp, or camp with just other children their own ages. Modern cabins are climate-controlled and kids are monitored by highly trained counselors who help all kids be part of the group.
Traditional one-week sessions are available for kids ages 8-12, also in modern, climate-controlled cabins, as well as a special “teen” camp called East Camp for kids ages 13-16. This section across the lake offers rustic, non climate-controlled cabins. Nostalgia for East Camp runs high – former campers from decades past still remember East Camp and the friendships formed with great fondness. There is also a week-long Equestrian program for horse-lovers.
Camp Lakewood also has wilderness programs, including Ranger and Jr. Ranger programs, and canoeing adventure trip. They learn about being out in the open, and how to be a part of a team of kids who are like-minded in their love for the outdoors, including sleeping outside!
Camp Lakewood has Leaders-in-Training and Counselors-in-Training leadership programs for 16 and 17-year olds, which focuses on personal development, new skills and growth.
