Try Acupuncture In 2020

By Traci Bredenkamp, LAc

Acupuncture is a form of treatment that involves inserting very thin filiform needles through a person’s skin at specific points on the body to various depths to stimulate the nervous system, brain and fascia to heal. It can help relieve pain and is used for a wide range of other complaints. It also employs the concept of energy pathways called meridians which coincide with the nervous system. It aims to unblock pathways so the body can return to its own healthy state, what we call homeostasis.

Acupuncture on Main in historic St. Charles specializes in acupuncture with sound healing. This system impacts the body on all levels and packs an extra punch for stimulating the body to heal. I utilize a system called Acutonics which incorporates the use of precision-calibrated medical tuning forks, which are applied on or over specific acupuncture points to access the body’s meridian and chakra energy systems. The sound waves of the forks vibrate and travel deeply into the body along energy pathways that have been proven to impact both the soma and the psyche. Their rich resonance and vibration connects with and supports the body’s natural frequencies, stimulates and balances the body’s physical and subtle energy field, promotes wellness, deep inner harmony and a sense of well-being, attunement and homeostasis.

Acupuncture on Main also has cupping; silicon cups, glass and plastic cups to help relieve stagnation and pain in the body. We have an excellent percussion massager in which I offer some medical massage in treatments and offer gua sha, which is a light scraping to the surface of the skin to draw up toxins and stagnation in tight areas. We offer electronic stimulation applied to acupuncture needles with a low level frequency to relax muscle groups on a deep level. Depending on what your needs are I will typically tweak a treatment with combination of these modalities along with acupuncture and sound healing.

Each person is different and presents with different challenges. I am trained to work with individuals one on one to address the root cause of what ails you. I have several tools to address what this is whether spiritually, mentally, emotionally or physically. Start off the New Year with this excellent form of self-care. If you are hesitant to try this I encourage you to try acupuncture in 2020!
