Growing Green Spotlight

7th Annual Growing Green Celebration To Be Held March 26, 5:30-8:30pm, at Third Degree Glass Factory

By Steve O’Rourke, USGBC-Missouri
Gateway Chapter Marketing Committee

The Missouri Gateway Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council is proudly recognizing a special group of people who have transformed our built environment in notable ways. For the past six years, the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter has presented Growing Green awards to community and building industry leaders in a variety of categories, such as restoration and innovation. This year, the group will shine a spotlight on previous winners, plus highlight recently certified LEED and ENERGY STAR projects.

The dinner event will be held at the Third Degree Glass Factory, a unique venue housed in a working glass studio. In lieu of a keynote presentation, the event will feature fun, fast-paced PechaKucha-style presentations by last year’s award recipients, where each winner presents 20 slides and speaks for only 20 seconds on each slide.

Winners from last year include:

  • St. Louis Zoo (Operational Excellence)
  • Green Street St. Louis (Restoration)
  • Gary Steps, Butterfly Energy Works (Innovation)
  • Deb Frank, Missouri Botanical Garden (Community Champion)
  • MICDS (Education)
  • Maryville University’s USGBC Student Group (Emerging Leader)

The dinner will be catered by Michele C Catering & Events, a Green Dining Alliance member that supports local farmers and features organic and seasonally-grown fruit and vegetables, plus proteins that are free of antibiotics and hormones. Guests can enjoy complimentary wine and craft beer from local microbreweries while networking with an estimated 200 attendees from the local green building community. Displays with success stories of past award recipients will be showcased throughout the event space, and similar displays will highlight the LEED and ENERGY STAR certifications. In addition, a local artist will provide a demonstration on glass flameworking.

Don’t miss this chance to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of those who have pushed the boundaries in green building and sustainable practices in the region!

Tickets include free on-site parking, drinks and buffet dinner with dessert. Early-bird pricing is available on tickets until March 19. Additional details are available at www.usgbc-mogateway.org/green-awards.
