Announcing the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter’s 3rd Annual Photo Contest!

By Johanna Schweiss,
USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator

At the U.S. Green Building Council-Missouri Gateway Chapter, we know members of our community and members of our Chapter are as passionate about sustainability and green building as we are! And through our 3rd Annual Photo contest, we’re looking for photos that celebrate the transformation of the built environment into a more environmentally friendly, prosperous, and healthy place to live, work, and learn.

In 2013, our photo contest judges had the hard task of choosing just 3 winners from over 40 photos that highlighted sustainable design, alternative transportation, renewable energy, urban agriculture, biodiversity, and energy conservation. The first place winning photo, taken by Julie Villa, is a beautiful shot of a hill filled with wind turbines at sunset.

Second place winner Christee Zimmerman’s photo is a striking photo of a Killdeer nesting on the roof of the LEED Platinum certified Sheet Metal Worker’s Local 36 building. And third place winner Jan Niehaus’s photo features a beautiful urban garden.

We look forward to seeing all of the photos as they are submitted! The contest is open to all residents of our territory (most of Missouri and Southern Illinois), and submissions are due December 1st, 2014. First, second, and third prizes will include restaurant gift cards, framed prints of the winning photos, a free year of USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter membership, and more! Head over to our website to check out last year’s photos, read the contest rules, and submit your photos. http://bit.ly/14photo
