Something for that holiday weight Gain?

Q: The holidays were good to me; however, they were not good for my weight. I put on a few extra pounds that I would really like to get off quickly. Is there anything I can do that is safe but effective?

A: You are not alone! Everyone gets caught up in the joyous activities, the family and friend gatherings and the next thing you know – you have gained unwanted holiday weight. Of course, the old saying, “calories in vs. calories out” (meaning eat less, exercise more) is the best way to lose weight. However, there are some supplements that can help you in your quest.

First, you might want to cleanse your colon and digestive tract to rid your body of undigested foods and toxins. This alone can help you lose a few pounds quickly. You will also feel great and you will be able to absorb your nutrients better. I will go over a few supplement choices; however, it would be best to talk with a health care professional, nutritionist, or herbalist to see what would be the right choice for you.
Fibrous herbs such as psyllium and guar gum help absorb fats and pull them through the intestinal tract. They also help you to feel “more full” thereby keeping you from over-eating. If you are having sugar cravings you may want to try Chromium GTF. This mineral helps balance your blood sugar thereby reducing the craving for sweets. CLA or conjugated linoleic acid is a fat metabolizer and increases muscle tone. This essential fatty acid is a great supplement if you work out on a regular basis. Other fat metabolizers are chickweed and lecithin. If you want to increase your metabolism and burn more calories, try one of the following:

  • Garcinia Cambogia – It helps to suppress appetite and block fat absorption.
  • African Mango Extract – Excellent for appetite suppression, boosts metabolism to burn calories and reduces blood sugar levels. It has even been shown to reduce cholesterol.
  • Raspberry Ketones – Shrinks your fat cells and helps to burn fat.
  • Green Coffee Bean extract – Another fat burner. Even though its name suggests that it contains caffeine, it has very little.

Again, these are just a few of the more popular weight loss products. A lot or great products come in a combination form with one or more of the above supplements combined. Keep in mind that some of these herbs should not be taken along with other medications or if high blood pressure exists.
Good luck with your weight loss program.
