Pull the Trigger on a New Life Pattern!

Anne S. Kosem, CPC, CLC, MBA

As children, our paths are pre-determined. First we crawl, then we walk, then we run …and it’s off to school where more milestones await. The curriculum and standards for achievement are already set and the measure of success defined for us in a grading scale.

Not only do we have a roadmap for education, but many also have a built-in support system at home, school, and or within the community that provides guidance and encouragement along the way. The older we get, the more responsibility, freedom and choices we are given, but at some point we step off that grid completely.

So what happens when the roadmap ends and we are suddenly responsible for determining our own path? For motivating ourselves? For setting our own goals and defining our own success?

The most logical question to start would be: What do I want? Where do I want to be? More commonly the question becomes, Where should I be? What should I want? Whether or not you grew up with a support system that encouraged you to ask for direction, it is natural to look outside yourself for answers when you do not trust yourself.

This cycle of chasing the things you think you should want perpetuates itself over time. It can be seen in all areas of life from career and family to marriage, health and relationships. You may not even be aware that you’re in it until the day you wake up and realize you’re not in alignment with the path you have chosen.   Something is missing and you’re not satisfied with your life. You did everything you were supposed to do, and still, you’re not happy. On top of that, ‘the empty something’ that has been welling up inside you has reached the surface and it can no longer be ignored.

You are being called to change, to create and re-create your life pattern– this time based on your desires! It is this process of growth and transformation where a life coach can really help you.

The first step in inspiring a meaningful life change is to determine exactly what you want. And in order to do that, you need to give yourself permission to dream. I invite you to join me in an exercise designed to raise your awareness around your true desires.

Find a quiet place where you can sit uninterrupted for 20-30 minutes.

Close your eyes and take a few calming, deep breaths. This clears the cutter from your mind to make space for new thoughts and ideas.

Pretend there are no obstacles, financial or otherwise. In this moment, they do not exist. As you go deeper into this exercise, they may try and creep back in, don’t let them!

Think about the area of your life where you feel the most ‘stuck.” Try not to get caught up in details of what’s wrong and why. Just observe what’s happening in your mind’s eye.

Now allow yourself to see your life the way you want it to be. Think about what it is you really desire for yourself. There are no ‘shoulds’ here, only wants. See yourself living in the space you created. This is your New Vision!

Look for the details that make it real to you. What are you wearing? What’s happening around you? Is there anyone with you? Most importantly, how do you feel?

This emotion must be positive and powerful. If not, keep dreaming!

Once you tap into this positive force, try and hold onto it as long as you can. I encourage you to try this a few times. Until you get to the point where your the vision ‘is a trigger’ for those positive feelings.

Open your eyes, write it down! Every detail you can recall. Writing engages your subconscious mind. In order to make a meaningful impression, you must be able to reach yourself on that subconscious level. Take your time.

On a 3×5 card, write a brief description of what you envisioned for yourself. Use key words and phrases that ‘trigger’ a vivid impression in your mind. Bullet points work well. I encourage you to make three copies of the card. One for your car, one to go beside your bed, one to carry with you. Read it throughout the day. Everyday. For at least 28 days.

Practice pulling the trigger on your new life pattern!!  As often as you can. The more positive energy you put into, the quicker it will manifest.

Just by completing this exercise, you have taken a giant step forward!

You have identified something you want and you are manifesting it, Now! Be grateful for all the blessings that come your way. Small ones can be just as powerful as larger ones, and carry with them the promise of more monumental change. Also, by integrating this positive energy force into your daily routine you are impacting other areas of your life as well.

You can be certain that the universe got your memo. Now all you have to do is receive it!
